“While parked at Family Dollar, across the street from Mt. Olivet, I noticed this interaction. One man was sitting on the curb as another walked up and greeted him. I’m not sure if the two knew each other, but they shared a lengthy conversation, each taking time for the other. It was a weekday evening and the last of the sun’s rays were lighting up the steeple. Coming from a background where church is a thing that happens on Sundays at a specific time, and people are usually commuting in cars and not on foot, the connection between these two men struck me as patient and deeply human. Neither was too busy for the other. There’s something refreshing and healing about that.”
